While I have been driving power and sailing yachts most of my life, I started my professional maritime career in 1977 in the U.S. Coast Guard. I served in a number of capacities including deck watch officer as well as law enforcement officer on the medium endurance cutter TAMAROA. I also served as assistant director of the Coast Guard Auxiliary based in New York City where I helped create a video training series on small sailboat safety.
I have professional experience along the East Coast of the U.S., the Western Atlantic from the Grand Banks to the Caribbean, the Caribbean Sea including Cuba, The Gulf of Mexico including the ICW, the Panama Canal, the Pacific Coast of Central and South America, Puget Sound, Alaska’s Inside Passage, the Great Lakes and U.S. Western Rivers.
I currently hold a USCG License as “Master of steam or motor vessels of not more than 1,600 gross registered tons (Domestic Tonnage), 3,000 Gross Tons (ITC Tonnage) upon oceans; Master of Towing Vessels (Oceans); Radar Observer – Unlimited; also , Master of Auxiliary Sail vessels of not more than 50 gross registered tons (Domestic Tonnage) upon near coastal waters.”
I also hold STCW-95 certification as: Master for vessels under 1600 GRT (Domestic), 3000 GT (ITC); Proficient in the use of survival craft (Lifeboatman); Proficient in providing medical First Aid. I also hold a TWIC card and USCG Merchant Mariner Document as AB (Unlimited).
All documentation is current through September 2021. I will be happy to send copies of all certificates prior to contracting for a delivery.
